Derrick's journey is deeply rooted in the very community he aims to build and uplift. Born and raised in the Pine Grove community just south of Bay Minette, his story is one of unwavering commitment to his hometown and a lifelong pursuit of knowledge. A graduate of Baldwin County High School with a college preparatory diploma, Derrick went on to attend Faulkner State Community College. There, he distinguished himself by making the Dean's List and becoming a member of prestigious honor societies, Phi Theta Kappa and Phi Beta Lambda, showcasing an early and persistent dedication to academic excellence. This foundation in business administration would serve as the bedrock for his future endeavors.
Derrick's professional career began with a focus on leadership and community engagement. Over a 10-year tenure at a major retail corporation, he quickly rose through the ranks from a part-time associate to a full-time Operations Supervisor. During this time, he also took on the significant role of Grant Management and Volunteer Coordinator, where he was responsible for forging strong relationships with local 501c3 organizations. This experience sharpened his skills in community development, grant administration, and strategic partnerships, all while cultivating a hands-on approach to creating positive change. It was this deep-seated passion for community well-being that ultimately inspired his next, pivotal step.
Driven by a desire to have a direct and lasting impact on the growth of North Baldwin County, Derrick returned to higher education in 2022 to formalize his vision. He would go on to earn two bachelor's degrees from Louisiana State University—one in Marketing with a concentration in Digital Marketing, and another in General Business with a concentration in Business Analytics. His commitment to mastering the intricacies of development culminated in July 2025 when he became a certified Alabama Planning and Zoning Official (CAPZO). Combining his local roots, professional leadership, and formal education in business and planning, Derrick founded Poseidon Development Company with a clear mission: to responsibly grow and revitalize his home, ensuring that the future of Bay Minette and North Baldwin County is both prosperous and sustainable.
